I relocated from a highschool that supplies a large amount of APs and weighted grading to a school with very few APs that does NOT weight grades. How will universities consider my transcript since half of it has a lot of APs and a weighted average, but the second half makes it seem like I took a step straight back in rigor and there’s no weighted GPA?
First the good news: Admission officials are used to going for a ‘mix-and-match’ method of evaluating prospects. They often times see applications from pupils that have moved from one school that is high another — and on occasion even from a nation to a different — so grading systems, program offerings, etc. can appear away from sync. The admission people truly won’t view your program selections at your brand new college as showing a step back in rigor if the tougher classes simply weren’t available.
The bad news, however, is the fact that — in case your current college combines your old transcript together with your new one — you may possibly lose some GPA points. For instance, suppose which you took three AP classes at your school that is previous and a B (3.0) in each of them. But, because that school did weight grades, those B’s may have become computed into your GPA as A’s (4.0). But, then, since your school that is new does weight grades, your GPA could be recalculated using a 3.0 for your AP class B’s.
